General Manager
Location: Great Yarmouth preferred / Montrose considered
Industry: Oil & Gas | Nuclear | Offshore Wind | Energy Services
Employment: Full-time, Permanent
Package: Competitive senior-level salary + performance-related bonus + car allowance/company vehicle + benefits
The Opportunity
N-ERGISE is looking to appoint an experienced General Manager to play a key role in the next stage of our growth and development.
Reporting directly to the Group Managing Director, this is a senior leadership appointment with responsibility for the day-to-day performance of N-ERGISE Ltd, with a particular focus on Projects and Operations, people, project profitability and operational performance.
N-ERGISE operates across the Energy sector, supporting clients within Oil & Gas, Offshore Wind and associated industries across the UK and internationally, with a growing focus on opportunities within Nuclear.
We are looking for someone who can help us build on what has already been established and strengthen the people, systems and operational capability required for the next stage of the business.
This is not a purely corporate management position.
We want an experienced industry leader who understands what it takes to operate and grow an SME: someone who can lead a management meeting, challenge the performance of a project, present confidently to a senior client, engage directly with our workforce and, when required, roll up their sleeves and personally help resolve an operational issue.
The Role
The General Manager will take responsibility for the effective day-to-day management and operational performance of N-ERGISE Ltd.
Working closely with the Group Managing Director and wider management team, key responsibilities will include:
Leading the day-to-day management and operational performance of the business.
Taking overall responsibility for Projects and Operations and the successful delivery of N-ERGISE projects.
Providing leadership and direction to Project Managers, operational teams and supporting functions.
Ensuring projects are appropriately planned, resourced, mobilised, executed and commercially closed out.
Maintaining oversight of project programme, productivity, utilisation, cost, margin and forecast performance.
Holding operational responsibility for P&L performance against agreed budgets and objectives.
Ensuring the business maintains the people, resources and operational capability required to support current and future workload.
Identifying emerging project, resource, commercial and operational risks and ensuring appropriate action is taken.
Developing managers and creating clear accountability throughout the business.
Building and maintaining strong operational relationships with key clients.
Representing N-ERGISE at senior client meetings, project reviews and presentations.
Supporting major tenders and opportunities with appropriate technical, operational and commercial input.
Working with the Group Managing Director and Commercial team to ensure new opportunities can be effectively and profitably delivered.
Driving improvements in project controls, management information, operational systems and business processes.
Working closely with our AI & Technology function to identify opportunities for automation, digitalisation and improved efficiency.
Supporting the continued development of N-ERGISE across existing and emerging Energy markets.
Helping build a scalable management and operational structure capable of supporting the continued growth of the business.
Who We Are Looking For
Our priority is proven experience and capability rather than job title alone.
The successful candidate is likely to have developed their career through Projects, Engineering or Operations before progressing into senior operational or general management leadership.
Strong Oil & Gas and offshore experience is highly desirable, together with experience across relevant engineering or industrial service disciplines. Experience within Nuclear and/or Offshore Wind would also be advantageous.
Most importantly, candidates must be able to demonstrate successful senior leadership experience within an SME or entrepreneurial engineering, energy or industrial services business.
We are particularly interested in individuals who can demonstrate that they have personally helped a business grow and develop — building teams, increasing operational capability, improving systems and controls and supporting sustainable, profitable growth.
Experience within a major EPC, operator or multinational organisation can be valuable, but candidates must also be able to demonstrate that they can operate effectively within a lean SME environment without the extensive functional and departmental support structures available within larger organisations.
Essential Experience
Significant senior Projects, Operations or General Management experience within Oil & Gas, Energy, Engineering, Industrial Services or a closely related sector.
Strong Oil & Gas experience with meaningful offshore exposure.
Proven senior leadership experience within an SME or entrepreneurial business environment.
Demonstrable personal involvement in successfully growing and scaling an SME.
Experience managing multidisciplinary project and operational teams.
Strong understanding of the complete project lifecycle from tender handover and mobilisation through execution, demobilisation and commercial close-out.
Good understanding of project profitability, margins, budgets, forecasting and operational cost control.
Strong commercial awareness.
Proven client-facing experience with the confidence to engage with senior stakeholders.
Sufficient technical credibility to understand, question and challenge engineering and operational matters.
Strong leadership, decision-making and problem-solving capability.
Willingness to remain close to projects and personally become involved when circumstances require it.
Willingness to travel within the UK and internationally.
Technical Background
A technical or engineering qualification such as an HNC, HND, degree or equivalent would be advantageous, although relevant experience and proven capability are more important.
Experience within one or more of the following areas would be particularly relevant:
Fabric Maintenance
Commissioning / Hook-Up & Commissioning
Mechanical Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Inspection / QA/QC / NDT
Fabrication / Welding
Access, Scaffolding, Coatings, Insulation or associated Industrial Services
The Person we are looking for someone with a strong ownership mentality.
You will be confident enough to lead experienced managers and operational teams, engage credibly with clients and make decisions when required.
You should be comfortable challenging established thinking and equally comfortable being challenged yourself.
You will need to operate at senior management level while remaining close enough to the business to understand what is actually happening across our projects and operations.
This role will suit someone who enjoys the pace and variety of an SME environment and is motivated by the opportunity to make a visible and measurable contribution to the development of a growing business.
We are not looking for someone who simply wants to maintain an established operation. We want someone who can help us make the business better.
Location and International Travel
The position will preferably be based from N-ERGISE’s Great Yarmouth headquarters. Montrose may be considered for an exceptional candidate.
This is a visible leadership role requiring a strong and consistent presence within the business; it is not intended to be a remote-working position.
Travel to clients, project locations and N-ERGISE operations will form part of the role, including travel across the UK and Europe and offshore where required.
The General Manager will also support our international activities, which may include periodic travel to West Africa in support of Oil & Gas projects and travel to Dubai to work with our N-ERGISE Group team and support wider Group activities.
What We Offer
This is an opportunity to join N-ERGISE at an important stage of its development and take a genuinely influential position within the business.
The successful candidate will work directly with the Group Managing Director and will have significant scope to influence how the business operates, develops its people and builds the systems and operational capability required for continued growth.
For an exceptional individual who demonstrates the required performance and capability, there is potential for the position to develop into a wider Group-level leadership role as N-ERGISE continues to develop internationally.
The remuneration package will reflect the seniority of the appointment and will include:
Competitive senior-level base salary
Performance-related bonus
Car allowance / company vehicle
Company pension
Applicable company benefits
If you have proven experience helping to grow an SME within the Energy or Industrial Services sector and believe you have the operational, technical and leadership capability to help take N-ERGISE through its next stage of development, we would like to hear from you.
To apply please send your application and CV to jobs@n-ergise.one with subject line ref: ‘General Manager’.
