As Earth Day approaches on April 22nd, N-ERGISE is proud to highlight some of the sustainability measures we adopt and take part in. As part of our environmental objectives for 2022, we set out to reduce single-use plastic from our supply chain, fund a tree planting scheme and encourage suppliers to be certified to ISO 14401 standard. Our efforts have resulted in significant benefits for the environment, further enhancing our commitment to sustainability.
Our objective to reduce single-use plastic was reached by changing the gloves we supply to our technicians. We have made this transition, and now use gloves that are manufactured from recycled plastic bottles. These gloves have a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to others made from nylon, polyester, or cotton. In fact, the manufacturer states that these gloves save 227g of CO2 per pair during production, whilst also reducing water and energy usage. We are proud that this switch to recycled gloves has resulted in the eradication of 136kg of CO2 emissions during the production process. Whilst also eliminating 12kg of single-use plastic waste from our waste stream.
N-ERGISE has also taken steps to offset our carbon footprint through a tree planting scheme and has funded the planting of a number of trees in East Anglia. This not only enhances the landscape and native broad-leaved trees but also provides a sustainable habitat for all kinds of wildlife. Each tree offsets approximately 1 tonne of CO2, totalling 20 tonnes of CO2 offset through this tree planting scheme. This aligns with our IMS policy to avoid negative biodiversity interference, protect landscapes, and ecosystems, while also contributing to our goal of carbon neutrality.
As part of our procurement due diligence process, the N-ERGISE Approved Vendor List (AVL) is constantly evolving. We request our suppliers to provide us with a copy of their Environmental Management System (EMS) documentation and/or certification (such as ISO 14001:2015) if applicable. Suppliers who do not have accredited EMS certification are encouraged to comply with our environmental standards.
N-ERGISE has reduced the amount of carbon emissions we are responsible for each year since recording began at the start of 2020 and can therefore be considered carbon neutral. Over this three-year period, our emissions have reduced by 36%. However, carbon neutrality is not enough for us, so we went one step further by offsetting our carbon emissions, so we can also be considered carbon negative.
N-ERGISE is dedicated to reducing our environmental impact and promoting sustainability in our supply chain. Our transition to recycled plastic gloves, tree planting scheme, and carbon offsetting efforts are key steps towards our goal of a more sustainable future. As we all look ahead to Earth Day, we are proud to share our achievements and our commitment to protecting the environment for generations to come.
